  1. Nominations for the Alder Awards are due soon. (These national teaching awards are only for math profs in their first 7 years of full-time teaching.) Here’s more info:

    ALDER AWARD NOMINATIONS DUE OCTOBER 1

    The deadline for receiving nomination packets for the Henry L. Alder Award for Distinguished Teaching by a Beginning College or University Mathematics Faculty Member is October 1. The Alder Awards are handed out annually at the summer MathFest. Named after Henry Alder, former President of the MAA and lifetime active member of this organization, this prestigious award is intended to stimulate beginning faculty to accomplishment in teaching as well as in their scholarly endeavors.     Title: Publishing your dissertation

    Organizers: Nick Scoville, Tim Goldberg and Kristine Roinestad

    Abstract: The work is all done, and now comes the fun part: publishing your dissertation. How do you break up your thesis into multiple papers? How do you determine the appropriate journal in your field to submit to? When is it appropriate to submit to a non-specialist journal? What is impact factor and mathematical citation quotient? Our panel of experts will answer these and many other questions in order to equip you to successfully publish your dissertation.
